Elizabeth Nozwe Caldwell was raised in the rich culture of Leimert Park. Elizabeth spent her formative years riding back and forth across 43rd Place and down Degnan Boulevard on her bike. Visiting the artist and shop owners along the way from Sika and Ramsess to Gallery Plus and 5th St. Dick’s. She found space to explore her artistic and entrepreneurial wings. Being surrounded by Black people and artists is essential to her work. Seeing a reflection of herself empowered her.

She found a love of landscapes while traveling. The beauty between what makes us similar and what keeps us unique. While traveling, she drew a through-line between the mountains and sunsets of San Benedetto del Tronto while she was in school and the drive between her hometown of Los Angeles and New Mexico, where her father was raised.

Her work is an affirmation, affirmation of self in the silhouette work, and affirmation in the spirit in the landscape work.
